Elio Palmieri is the gelato maker and founder of Godot, a contemporary gelato atelier born in 2008 in Rovigo. His path began in 1984 in his mother Carla’s workshop in the Maremma, where his curiosity for the craft was born and a solid base of artisan experience was formed; in the 1990s he saw at first hand the work of the Comitato Toscano Gelatieri, and then in the early 2000s moved to Veneto, where he met the master Pino Scaringella and collaborated with Artigeniale, a company that marked the history of gelato in those years. In this period he also created the first gelato line for Venchi. With the opening of Godot, Elio gave life to an unconventional gelateria, inspired also by Beckett’s theatrical imagination: a counter with pozzetti, minimal furnishings and surreal, narrative flavours such as Turbami, Leopolda, Estragone, Vladimiro, Amore, Pace and Gioia. The production philosophy is clear: no compound ingredients, only quality raw ingredients, traceability and continuous study of the chemistry of ingredients. Godot is also a cultural landmark of the city, involved in events, projects with schools and civic initiatives, and has been recognised among the best gelaterias in Italy.
